The sun is the largest object in our solar system and contains 99.85 % of all the matter in the solar system.
The earth could fit inside the sun 1.3 million times.
The suns outer layer is called the photosphere
and has a temperature of 6,000 degrees C
It's inner temperature reaches 15,000,000 degreesC

Energy generated at the suns core, through a
process called convection, travels to the outer
surface and is released as light and heat.
This journey takes 1,000,000 years.

The Sun is an ordinary star like what we see in the night sky.
It is one of more than 100 billion in our galaxy ( milkyway).
The Sun rotates once every 27 days and is made up of 75% hydrogen
and 25% helium. The hydrogen is turned into helium thus producing the Suns energy.
A small region above the photosphere is called the chromosphere,
and above this is the corona.
It is only visible during an eclipse and extends millions of kilometers into space

Sun spots, which appear as dark spots, are cooler regions
on the Suns surface.
Solar flares are eruptions of gas and particles associated with sun spot activity, and can disrupt communications and electrical power systems here on Earth.
The solar wind is a stream of charged particles that blasts the entire solar system causing brilliant auroral displays.
