The Gallery at Barkham is a lovely and inspiring room that lends itself to a variety of uses - concerts, paintings and antiques being but a few of them.
This year sees the introduction of courses and masterclasses that are geared to make full use of the many facilities at Barkham.

The course is designed to give encouragement to harpists who already
have a facility with the instrument.
Daphne will help with technique, musicianship and performance flair in
addition to answering questions on all the problems facing harpists in a
demanding musical environment.
During the week, participants will prepare ensemble pieces and there will
be a concert in a local church on 14 April.
Participants are invited to bring prepared repertoire of their choice to
the course.
The week's work is guaranteed to be stimulating as the Exmoor surroundings at Barkham lend themselves to total relaxation as well as splendid music-making.

2. THE BARKHAM WOODWIND COURSE For Beginners up to Grade 5

Rachael Ager is one of Britain's top young woodwind players who has played concertos at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and at St. John's Smith Square. She has also played with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Northern Sinfonia and Opera North. She has her own quartet, the Ager Oboe Quartet.
This course is designed to help woodwind players who are in the early stages of playing a wind instrument and who are eager to know and learn more. Why not come and spend a day working with Rachael, who will carefully nurse away all the teething troubles in playing a wind instrument. Not only that, but she knows that playing an instrument is meant to be FUN!
Participants must bring their own instruments and one piece of their choice to the course and are not to be discouraged if they can only present a few bars. Observers are most welcome on the course - you can learn just as much from watching!

Ruth Harte is in demand all over the world for lectures and masterclasses. She has enjoyed a long association with the Associated Board as an examiner and is a Mentor on the CTABRSM course. She was Warden of the Piano Teachers Section of the ISM from 1992 to 1993.
The Seminar is designed to explore in depth the problems which face many
piano teachers; the art of practising, stimulating the unwilling pupil,
the importance of listening, musicality, sightreading, pedalling,
enjoyment at the keyboard, tackling difficult parents and so on. Ruth
Harte will also be encouraging the wise use of exams so that they leave
the necessary space for other repertoire and musicianship.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and participants will
be welcome for demonstration purposes.
