Historic Houses, Churches & Gardens

St GilesWe can also serve as a base for visiting a wide range of historic buildings and gardens, including: Chatsworth House, Tissington Hall, Haddon Hall, Pugin's Church of St. Giles (Cheadle, Staffs), Sudbury Hall, Lichfield Cathedral, Eyam Hall , Biddulph Grange Gardens, and Stapeley Water Gardens.

Besides the rich variety of birds to be seen in the Churnet Valley itself there are also a number of nature parks and wildlife sanctuaries nearby in the surrounding Moorlands including: Blackbrook Zoological Park, Churnet Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Coombes Valley RSPB Reserve, Moorlands Farm Park, Consall Nature Park.

Manifold ValleyWhether you are looking for a walk on the hills or to allow your children to cycle in safety along converted railway tracks this area can offer the walk or ride for you, including: the Churnet Valley, the Staffordshire Way, the Tissington Trail, the Manifold Valley, the Weaver Hills, Carsington Reservoir, Dimmingsdale, the Roaches, Dovedale, the Staffordshire Moorlands, the Peak District National Park.

Steam Trains & Canals

CauldonWe are fortunate to have three steam railways functioning locally: the Churnet Valley Railway, Foxfield Steam Railway, and Peak Rail (Matlock). The Cauldon Canal is also open for recreational use with canal boat trips offered from the nearby Froghall Wharf.

Villages, Market Towns & the Potteries

Royal DoultonWe are ideally situated to explore the picturesque villages of the Staffordshire Moorlands and the White Peak (don’t miss the well dressings). The historic market towns of Leek (renowned for it's antique shops), Ashbourne (famed for it's annual shrovetide football event), Cheadle (home to Pugin's beautiful Church of St Giles) and Uttoxeter (with it's popular Racecourse) are all close by. Alternatively why not visit the Museums, Visitor Centres & Factory Shops of world famous china makers such as Royal Doulton, Spode, Wedgwood, Portmeirion and many more to be found in the historic Potteries of Stoke-on -Trent.
