Gauntlet, a Quantar pilot, miner and explorer. So named due to his prosthetic right hand which he lost during a mining accident...his escape pod misfired before he was completly in it... .now his hand was clad in plasteel but he wasnt bitter about it. He was popular with his Quantar brothers and had become a regular face at Hyperial Station. He had done several missions for the Hyperial Government and had donated cells and undergone experiments from time to time in exchange for medical treatment for his hand. Medical procedures and aftercare examinations were expensive after all but the scientists seemed more than willing to waive the costs for his cooperation. He was unaware that they had plans for these cells in the near future. Then one day he was gone. His last message said he was moving to investigate a deep space 'roid that had "flashed" onto his radar grid in Mokk's Battlefield... and he was never seen or heard of again. Presumed dead he was soon forgotten... or was he? His earliest memory is of staring out of a plexiglass birthing tank on Hyperial station, automatically awakened after the disapearence of Gauntlet. An exact copy of Gauntlet, including his stump, and with Gauntlet's memories uploaded through his implants (Hyperial's own little addition), he was unceremoniously thrown into a ship and sent out on dangerous scanning missions. And so Gauntlet2 came into being. Year after year he was sent out into the deepest corners of the known universe, scanning rocks, anomolies and space junk. He was used to doing as he was told because it was in his genetic makeup, his implants feeding him updated misson requirements and orders. But all the while he knew deep down inside that this was wrong. And indeed it was. It seems that Hyperial wasnt given the go ahead from TRI to produce a clone, especially a clone from Gauntlet. As far as TRI was conserned, G'2 had been terminated in the Hyperial lab years ago. It was after completing a scan of an anomaly that his ship became heavily damaged and was forced to make an emergency landing on Octavius Prime. Finding a smuggler camp he managed to get transport to Octavius Core where he worked long and hard to earn the credits to travel "home". Hyperial didn't have the ships to send after him, and because of the situation with TRI over his 'birth' they terminated his implanted link to Hyperial leaving him alone and confused. Hyperion scientists, believing that he would die without functioning implants closed his records and destroyed any trace that he had ever been created.
Flying in groups, and performing various missions and mercenary duties, it wasn't long before they encountered the Quantar miner and academic named Aelgas who had left himself in a dangerous situation... the rest is, as they say, history.... |
