| Germany v
Russia the big game of Day 4 |
|
Day 4 sees England in action against Catalonia in what may
well prove to be a battle to try to make the 5th/6th play off.
Catalonia seem to have recovered from their 26 - 8 defeat
against high flying Chinese Taipei and produced a credible
performance against Belgium on day 2 losing 17 - 10 and on Day 3
look in good form as they comfortably defeated Hong Kong 20 - 8.
England on their part produced a similar performance against the
Belgians losing 14 - 8, but managed less goals against Hong Kong
eventually winning 14 - 4, and the poor first half showing
against Australia which saw them go into the half time having
scored just 4 goals suggests that goal scoring remains a
problem, something that of course will not come as great
surprise.
England's most prolific goal scorers to date are Otto Fabius,
who plays his Korfball in the Netherlands, and Luke Francis both
on a total of 7 goals whereas Catlonia's main goal scorer has
been Salva Fort.
England should go into the game as favourites based on their
experience but there is likely to be little separating the two
teams in what hopefully be a more entertaining clash than was
the case against Australia.
The big game of Day 4 will be the Pool A clash between Germany
and Russia and a win for the Germans would see them needing only
to defeat the Czech Republic to secure a semi clash with Chinese
Taipei and what them would be the best chance they have ever had
of reaching the finals. If one team understand how to play
against Chinese Taipei effectively it is the Germans.
Should Russia win the clash they would only need to defeat South
Africa in their last game to meet Taipei in the semi finals
There will likely be little to separate the two in what promises
to be an epic battle bearing in mind the prize at stake but many
will fancy the experienced Germans to squeeze out winners
In other games the Belgian coach faces a tough task lifting his
players for their clash with Australia, but even though the
image has been shattered and the Belgians brought down to earth
by Taipei it is unlikely that they will be troubled by Australia
and would need only a win over Hong Kong to go on to meet the
Netherlands in the semi finals.
The Netherlands look set for another less than challenging
outing , this time against South Africa, and the only question
will be how many goals will they win by.
The Czech Republic face China a which they should then win
comfortably which would then leave them praying for a German
victory as that would give them a very credible chance of making
the semi finals should the defeat Germany on Wednesday.
Should Russia win against Germany the Czech's will be left
hoping that China can beat the Russians in their last pool game,
an unlikely event of course.
So all eyes will be on the Germany v Russia clash while English
fans will be hoping for a win over Catalonia to set up an the
big clash with Taipei on Wednesday.
Who knows the KOC might have even worked out how to transmit the
video over the web by then, but don't hold your breath.
