The inter companies Korfball
tournament, hosted by Supernova
Korfball club, takes place once
again this summer at Clapham
Common on Tuesday 20th July 2004
from 5pm to 9pm.
With 20 teams currently entered
the tournament should provide a
significant boost in terms of
Korfball's exposure and should
once again provide some
competitive and entertaining
matches, despite the fact that
the majority of those taking
part will be relatively new to
the sport.
The organisers are currently
looking for a number of
volunteers to help out with the
event, especially referees and
the many of the Company teams
entered are looking for coaches
to help them through the
tournament.
If you can assist in either
department then please contact
Tamara Burnell via
email
Last summer's tournament
featured was won by British
Airways with M&G Fixed Income 2
finishing runners up having lost
the final 3 - 0. Other
teams entered in the 2003
tournament included The House of
Commons, Merrill Lynch, UBS,
CPR, Barclays, Goldman Sachs,
and Morgan Stanley.
This year's entries are;
HSBC, Barclays, Royal Bank of
Scotland, Deutsche Bank, Credit
Suisse First Boston, Morgan
Stanley, Merrill Lynch, BNP
Paribas, ABN Amro, Royal Bank of
Canada, UBS, Haden, Reuters,
House of Commons, Prudential,
Pru Private Finance, M&G, BBB, J
A Kemp & Co with holders
British Airways still to confirm
In an interesting development
there is a suggestion that the
Guardian newspaper, who recently
published an article mentioning
Korfball, might enter a team.
In the article journalist David
Hopps described Korfball as 'a
sport only played in Holland and
Belgium in which it is socially
unacceptable to try too hard',
which likely means that there
will be a lot of 'socially
unacceptable' activity going on
at Clapham Common in July if
last year's tournament is
anything to go by.
