The Bombing of North Vietnam 1964 to 1968
John T Smith
Rolling Thunder was the code name given to the progressive use of air power against North Vietnam. Designed to force the North Vietnamese into changing their policy towards the South, the North Vietnamese did not crumble under the weight of the attack, but built up the world's most powerful air defence organisation. Some 900 US aircraft, were destroyed by MiG 17s, MiG 21s and SAMs. The country was devastated, but the campaign failed completely. This is a fully detailed history of the campaign from the point of view of airmen as well as politicians. Includes 10 appendices listing details such as US air-to-air victories.
