Enid
Blyton was probably the most successful British children's writer
of the twentieth century, she was born in London
on 11th August 1897 and she died in 1968
Enid Blyton's books have received much literary criticism, indeed the attitudes displayed in many of the books can be considered as sexist and outdated. At the end of the fifties many librarians refused to stock books by Enid Blyton on the grounds that children would not read the great works of literature, this had the result that Enid Blyton sold even more books. All I can say is that as a child I really enjoyed reading her books. I would say that due to Enid Blyton I went on to read many other authors.
This is what I wrote in
April 98
"My oldest daughter is now ten and my eldest son is nine.
Both are reading Enid Blyton. After reading the Island of
Adventure, my daughter told me it was very exciting, since then
she has read the Adventure series and the Mystery series."
My Daughter has updated this in 1999
'My name is Becky and I am
now eleven, I have read all the Famous Five, Secret Seven,
Mystery and Adventure series, I thought all the books fun to read.
My favourite Famous Five book is Five Run Away Together. My
favourite mystery book is the Mystery of the Disappearing Cat and
my favourite adventure book is The Ship of Adventure.'

Becky has now reached 13, ie: a teenager -Since Enid Blyton she
has gone on to read many other books, the last that I know of
being the Harry Potter series. She now prefers TV, Pop music and
the playstation.
