PREAMBLE Halfway through the hearing before Justice Lightman on 14th January, it came to light that Alan Ryan apparently held various important university committee posts which had not been (and of course should have been) mentioned in Registrar Holmes' massive statement about him. I had found, and now brandished, some old University Calendar entries indicating various of his undeclared university positions (e.g. on the Undergraduate Admissions Committee and the Equal Opportunities Committee). Oxford's lawyers looked askance, and Lightman ordered both sides to go away to amass more evidence of all of Ryan's roles (statements following). Lightman reserved his judgment until the following weekend and fixed a short hearing on 24th January for the handing-down of his judgment and his decision on costs. - A. M.

(2) Copies of the pages from the University Calendar 2000/1 in relation to the Committee for the Careers Service are attached at pages 1-2.

(3) The Joint Undergraduate Admissions Committee had ceased to exist by April 2001. It was replaced by the Admissions Committee. Dr Ryan is a member of this Committee in his capacity as Warden of New College.

(4) A copy of the list of members of the Admissions Executive Committee 2000/1 is attached at page 3.

(5) A copy of a list of the members of the Joint Committee for Co-ordination of University and College Fund-Raising is at page 4.
