Dear Registrar,
CUP's tax-exemption
I am writing formally to request your production of certain documents under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, to which the University is subject.
The copy documents I seek are all those relating to the applications made by the Cambridge University Press (CUP) to the Inland Revenue in 1940 (rejected) and in 1975 (accepted in 1976) for exemption from Corporation Tax, including the Inland Revenue's detailed rulings and reasonings in each case.
Since the tax status of the university presses is currently under review in the Charity Commission's 'public benefit' consultation, I should be grateful for your speedy response.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Malcolm
