Dear Mr Cass

I thank you for your letter 16 December enclosing the repayment claim and note your comments regarding the timing of the earlier claim to exemption. As I indicated during our telephone conversation, it is felt that the views of Policy Division should be sought concerning the claim as regards 1968 and 1969 and I will shortly be referring my papers accordingly.

As far as your claim for 1970 to 1975 is concerned, this is agreed at £237,038.70. Pending Departmental confirmation of the tax paid over and above that evidenced by the receipts enclosed with your letter, I am arranging for an interim repayment of £204,537.70 to be made. Repayment supplement will be due in accordance with the provisions of Finance (No 2) Act 1975 for each period prior to 1973 and it is proposed to include this with the balance of the repayment in due course.

Yours sincerely

H A Marsh
HM Inspector of Taxes
