Sir

In reply to your letter of August 16 addressed to H.M.I.T Cambridge 1 (reference 41/6339) I have to inform you that the claim of the Cambridge University Press to relief from liability for war damage contribution under Section 39 of the War Damage Act, 1941, has been submitted to the Commissioners of Inland Revenue for their consideration.

I am to state that the Commissioners are not satisfied on the evidence before them that the Cambridge University Press is entitled to the relief in question and they sre therefore unable to admit the claim.

If the University is unable to accept this decision, it is open to it under the Procedure Rules laid down by the War Damage Commission to have the question determined by the Commission by giving notice to their Secretary (under Rule 2) within 28 days of the date of this letter. A copy of the Rules in question is enclosed herewith.

Yours faithfully
