To The Chief Inspector
Cambridge University Press
The Board's Solicitor proposed to include in the counterstatement in this case - for the purpose inter alia of showing the commercial nature of the operations of the Press - a copy of the accounts of the Press for the year 1939. Typed copies of the accounts were sent by the Inspector, Cambridge 1st District, on the 12th November.
On looking at them it would seem that they relate to the printing side only of the business, and the letter of 29th November, 1934, from the Financial Board, in Chief Inspector, (Claims) papers X 36122 attached, says that separate accounts are kept of the printing and publishing sides. It appears from a report of 5th December, 1939 in papers X 36122 attached that there are separate assessments on the two sides of the business, one at Cambridge 1st District and the other at Euston.
The pads have now been obtained from Cambridge and Euston.
It would be much appreciated if you could assist the Solicitor by having the available accounts looked at and by letting him have a note as to what they cover, etc.
