Oxford University Press's failed 1944
application for exemption from wartime E.P.T. (Excess Profits
Tax)
Letter from Sir Alan Barlow (Inland Revenue) to
Oxford University Vice-Chancellor, 13th June 1944
13th June, 1944
Dear Vice-Chancellor,
Thank you for your letter of 10th June.
When you first spoke to me I wondered whether there was a case for reviewing
your contract with the Stationery Office but obviously this would not help. The
question of the incidence of E.P.T. upon a peculiar institution like the
Clarendon Press is one on which it is for the Inland Revenue Department to
advise the Chancellor and I am asking them to look into it.
Yours sincerely
D. A. Barlow
