THE College, the corporate designation of which is 'The President and Scholars of the College of Corpus Christi in the University of Oxford', was founded in 1517 by Richard Fox, Bishop of Winchester, for a President, three professors, as they would now be called (whose lectures were to be open to the University at large), twenty fellows, twenty scholars, two chaplains, up to six sons of noblemen or lawyers (later gentlemen commoners), two clerks, two choristers, and eight servants.
The Governing Body of the College consists of the President and Fellows.
The income of the Oddie Trust is applied in the first instance to helping undergraduates in need of assistance. Other funds held by the College for this purpose are the Benefaction Fund, and the Charles Plummer Fund. The income of the Emily Thomas Trust may be applied towards the establishment of Research Fellowships, and of Senior Scholarships awarded to graduate students. Other funds are available for the annual award to undergraduates of prizes in memory of Arthur Sidgwick, A. E. Haigh, Christopher Bushell, Miles Clauson, James F. Thomson, and Cecil and Phyllis Palmer.
