College arms: Gules, on a chevron between in chief two lions heads erased argent, and in base a sword of the second pummelled and kilt or and enfiled with a wreath of laurel proper, three ravens"

ST ANNE'S COLLEGE was incorporated by Royal Charter in May 1952. Before incorporation St Anne's was known from 1942 to 1952 as St Anne's Society, and before that as the Society of Oxford Home-Students

The Oxford Home-Students were from 1879 to 1893 under the supervision of the Secretary of the Association for Promoting the Education of Women in Oxford. They were then placed by the Council of the Association under the charge of a Principal acting with a committee, which was entrusted with the duty of making regulations, subject to the approval of the Council, with regard to discipline and conditions of residence.

A statute of the University passed on 1 November 1910 admitted the Society to the privileges of a Recognized Society of Women Students, and provided for the appointment of the Principal and of the Governing Body by the Delegates for Women students. On 11 May 1920 the Society was, by Statt. Tit. XXIII, admitted to the further privileges conferred on women students by that statute.

Under a statute of the University passed in Michaelmas Term 1959 St Anne's College was admitted to full College status. The corporate designation of the College is'The Principal and Fellows of St Anne's College in the University of Oxford'.

In Michaelmas Term 1976 the Governing Body voted to amend the Statutes to allow the election of men to the office of Principal and as Fellows, and in Michaelmas Term 1977 to admit men as Junior Members from October 1979.

The library and common rooms, completed in 1951, were the result of anbenefaction from Mrs A. G. Hartland. A dining-hall was added in 1959, the Wolfson Building was opened in 1964, the Founders' Gatchouse in 1966, the Rayne Building in 1968, an extension was added to Hartland House in 1972, and the Claire PalleY Building and Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre were opened in 1992. Trenarnan House was completed in 1995, and Robert Saunders House in 1997.
