THE College was founded by the University to replace the former St Catherine's Society, the name adopted in 1930 by the former Delegacy of Non-Collegiate Students (founded in 1868). A charter of incorporation was granted in 1963, providing for the advancement of learning, education, and research in the arts and sciences.
Numerous gifts from individuals and corporations enable the College to otter awards for excellence in the arts and the sciences for students while resident and for furthering their careers thereafter.
The corporate designation of the College is 'St Catherine's College in the University of Oxford'.
