TRINITY COLLEGE, was founded in 1554-5 by Sir Thomas Pope, Knight of Tittenhanger, Hertfordshire, for a President, twelve fellows, and twelve scholars, in the house and precinct of the Benedictine Monks of Durham, called Durham College, which was founded c. 1286 by Prior Richard de Hoton, endowed by Bishop Thomas Hatfield c. 1381, and dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Our Lady, and St Cuthbert.
