* The Business Expansion Scheme (B.E.S.) was a tax dodge of which the Oxford colleges enthusiastically took advantage in the 1990s. All the college accommodation was sold to a company which, 5 years later, sold it back to the college. Keble made about £2m out of the scam. Certain privileged individuals who were allowed to invest also made a killing, not to mention the solicitors, accountants and Johnson Fry (Asset Managers) who advised on the issue.
