IN THE READING EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNAL Case No: 2701126/04

Between DIAMOND VERSI Claimant
And (1) KEBLE COLLEGE (2) ROGER BODEN Respondents

Witness Statement of Edwin Peel (pp Keble College), 5th January 2005

I Edwin Peel of XXXXX will say as follows:-

1. I am a solicitor, fellow and a tutor in law of the Respondent

2. I was asked by the warden to hear the appeal of the complaint against the decision of Tim Jenkinson.

3. The first meeting with the Claimant was on 10th March. Mark Butchers (the Chaplain) was present as a witness. The meeting lasted about one hour but because of other commitments the meeting had to be adjourned.

4. The meeting was re-covered on 18th March with Mark Butchers again present as a witness, and lasted, on that occasion, about 2 hours.

5. I made certain of the grounds of appeal and what the Claimant wanted to bring to my attention. I allowed the Claimant full and free __ (sic)to discuss whatever he wanted.

6. The Claimant did not seem to have grounds for an appeal but really wanted a re-hearing.

7. I read all of the evidence put before Tim Jenkinson. I interviewed Roger Borden (sic) and Tim Jenkinson. I met Roger Borden (sic) on 19th March and Tim Jenkinson on 23rd March. I spoke to the Warden and Janet Betts (__ Bursar).

8. The question of Racial Discrimination in the selection process was not raised. I could not find any evidence that the ____ for redundancy process had anything to do with race.

9. I could not find any evidence to over turn the decision of Tim Jenkinson, I therefore dismissed the appeal.

To the best of my knowledge and belief the contents of this statement are true.

Signed: Edwin Peel
