IN THE READING EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNAL Case No: 2701126/04

Between DIAMOND VERSI Claimant
And (1) KEBLE COLLEGE (2) ROGER BODEN Respondents

Witness Statement of Nicholas Jeffries (pp Diamond Versi), 25th January 2005

I, Nicholas Jeffries of XXXXXX will say as follows:

1. I was employed by the First Respondent as a Senior Common Room Butler between February 1985 and September 2001. 1 know the Claimant from my employment at Keble College.

2. Diamond and I discussed his issues with Roger Boden.

3. I can recall that I talked with Diamond about the following:

a. odd behaviour by Roger Boden when a lady of asian origin was refused a loan from Keble College;

b. unwarranted resistance by Roger Boden to the recruitment of Hien Le;

c. movement of the door between the office of Roger Boden and Diamond;

d. the investigation of Diamond for no reason

4. Approximately eighteen months ago I recall that Diamond said he thought the actions of Roger Boden to be racially motivated.

5. I recall that my impression was that Roger Boden was not friendly towards Diamond. I never saw Roger Boden talking directly to Diamond or engaging in personal conversation with him, in contrast with white colleagues where he did.

6. Back in the mid 1990s I also thought it was odd that Roger Boden had missed Diamond out of the loop in the B.E.S. [Business Expansion Scheme - see Dramatis Personae].

I confirm that the content of this statement is true.

Signed: Nicholas Jeffries
