Minutes of Meeting held on Tuesday 23 July 1985

Part I

Matters arising from the Minutes None.

Attendance at Meetings Approval was given to the absence of Professors Boardman and Sen from the meeting.

Report of Finance Committee The Chairman of Finance Committee enlarged on items from the minutes of 9 July.

Annual Accounts The Delegates approved the Annual Accounts and publication of the Abstract as drafted.

Annual Report The Delegates approved the draft report in substance and were invited to send comments on points of detail to the Secretary within a week.

Part III: Proposals Listed for Information The Delegates rcquested that Part III should continue to be included in the Agenda.

College Publications The list of titles tabled was approved.

General Publications The proposal for The New Oxford Book of Modern Verse was deferred for further consideration. On the Concise Dictionaries of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology the Delegates requested that steps be taken to control overlapping. The other titles tabled were approved.

Educational and ELT Publications The list of titles tabled was approved.

OUP(USA) Publications The list of titles tabled was noted. The Delegates authorized publication, with the Clarendon Press imprint, of Professor Lee Bollinger: The Tolerant Society: Free Speech in America.

Branch Publications The Delegates approved the use of the title Concise Oxford Dictionary of Australian History subject to Mr Thomas's approval of some sample material from the final manuscript. Mr Morrow's paper on contentious names and boundaries in atlases was noted and approval given to the Indian Branch's continuing its present practice.

Littman Library of Jewish Civilization The Delegates saw no objection to the publication of an English translation of Robert Bonfil: The Rabbinate in Renaissance Italy.

Oxford Early Music Series The Delegates agreed to the revival of the series, the inclusion of 'Oxford' in the title, and the appointment of Dr C Page and Dr J Milsom as general editors.

Oxford World's Classics (Octopus) The Delegates agreed to the signing of an agreement with Octopus Books for the reissue of a number of titles in the series in hard covers and to the use of 'Oxford' in the series title.

Animal Intelligence Series Agreed to co-publication of the series with Columbia University Press.

Kinsey Institute Series Agreed to publication of the series subject to approval of individual volumes.

Oxford Studies in Neutron Scattering Agreed to establish the series, with Professors E W J Mitchell and S Lovesey as general editors.

Oxford Journals:

Teaching Mathematics and Its Applications Agreed to accept the proposal

The Mouse Newsletter Agreed to accept tho proposal

Journal of Pyschopharmacology Agreed to accept the proposal

Agreed to publication in two volumes
