From: Professor Ian Brownlie, QC, FBA.
All Souls College, Oxford OX1 4AL Telephone Oxford (0865) 279379

To: Andrew Malcolm, Esq., 7 Southover Street, Brighton BN2 2UA.

Thank you for your letter dated 31st March 1988. I regret to say that I cannot be of assistance. I have no authority whatsoever to engage in correspondence concerning a matter of litigation between the Press and a third party. Moreover, I have no knowledge whatsoever of the matters to which you refer in your letter, which I was very surprised to receive.

I would point out that my role as a Delegate is exactly the same as that of any other Delegate, and it is not my role to provide the Press with legal advice. I think that it would probably assist you in the protection of your interests if you corresponded with the responsible officers of the Press, that is to say the Chairman and Oxford Publisher (R.A. Denniston) and the Managing Director (Mr. Charkin).

Yours sincerely, Ian Brownlie
