Evidence (Delegates) item 10: Part-transcript of telephone conversation between Andrew Malcolm and D. F. Pears, of Christ Church College, Oxford, 1st July 1989

Professor Pears was a Delegate of the Press in 1985, is a philosopher, and is listed in the minutes as having been present at the Delegates' meeting of 23rd July 1985. This conversation proceeds from our conversation on 6th May.

Malcolm: Hello. I phoned you about a month or so ago in the States about a problem I'd had...

Pears: Yes and I told you I wasn't at the meeting and I had heard about your book. I advised you to try elsewhere.

Pears: Yes, well it is of course a matter of fact, if it was taken as an item on the agendas of the meeting. Since I wasn't there, I don't know.

Malcolm: Well one thing that has transpired is that we've got the minutes of the meeting and you're listed as having been present at it.

Pears: Good heavens! Really? I assure you I'd completely forgotten. But if you have the minutes, then you've got your answer.

Malcolm: Well, the minutes are incomplete...
