Welcome to the Stony Live 2003 Diary. If you have some of your own either email them to me andy@stonylive.org or give me a hard copy and I can scan them in (You will catch me at most events... I'm the guy with the Austin Powers Glasses!) . At the bottom of every page of photographs you will find my miss spelt ramblings of the day. Enjoy!!! Wednesday 11th June. Music
For those of you who don't know, I also work on the Togfest committee, which is coming up on June 28th this year. We thought we would have a quick meeting in the Darjeeling, throw in a curry and listen to Blue Jam play. The restaurant could not put all three of them on because the "incredible" Public Entertainment Licensing laws. This gave Ian the chance to sit it out, contemplate souring with the eagles tonight. The Togfest boys then made a citizens arrest of me because I hummed along with a song they were singing. You think this funny but I could be deemed as having breached the licensing laws. Anyway, don't get me going on that one. I scouted up the road to see Elles Belles who were coping quite well with a large crowd, and on to St Marys and St Giles where No Strings were singing. The Church is absolutely the right place to listen to close harmony singing, the acoustics are tremendous. I always think the human voice is by far the most beautiful and diverse instrument, you may think differently if you come along to the Fox and here me singing tonight. I finished up in the Cock listening to some members of the Waterson family, one of whom is Martin Carthy. There is something about a family that performs together that brings a certain closeness in the performance. No exceptions tonight, with soulful singing from Norma and incredible harmonies from everybody else. I ust also say I saw a fine performance from my friends Brian Peckett and Roddy Clenahagn. Roddy sung a John Close song, just proving that the music with the memory can live on. God speed John, thinking of you.
