Diary Wednesday June 12th 2002Wednesday caused me more than my fair share of problems. Like turning up at the Fox and Hounds and finding I had left my camera's memory card at home. However, my very patient wife, Christine, drove all the way back out to Stony and delivered it in time for me to take a few pictures from the Rose & Castle Morris. These guys were actually my first introduction to Folk music in this area. I often used to go and have a beer and a sing song at the Plough in Shutlanger.. and these were the guys doing the singing. Rose and Castle were joined by the Stony Steppers most of who I saw waltzing the night before at "Shall we Dance" .. They are so very versatile. Spoilt for choice I decided to go to all of the events. I thought my liver would be much more appreciative. (Oh how wrong I was) So it was a quick stop at the Song Loft Special in the Cock, with Munday + Turner and Harvey Andrews. I was really taken by the Aussie duo's, enthusiasm which really came across in their performance and Harvey went straight into getting everybody to sing. Upstairs in the Oak room was a bunch of lads younger than my own children, appropriately named the New Generation. Very encouraging for us ageing musos. Jumping back a few generations, Packington's Pound and Tryst were on in the Crown with their blend of medieval music. Hurdy Gurdys and ale! a sure fire way of getting a hangover. I finally finished up at York House to see Rhythm and Business and the Beneficial blues band play to an enthusiastic audience. I have been very pleasantly surprised how well attended all of the events have been and the quality of the performances. We are so lucky in this town. Tonight I am off to the War of the Worlds a battle than nearly never happened but I will tell you about that tomorrow. However, if you haven't got a ticket you wont get in because it is sold out. Once more unto the breach!!!! Back to 11th< Monday 12th June ....>Goto the 13th |
