On a slightly misty, but fair day in late October 2007, I treated myself to a return flight to Oban by seaplane. Departure is from the River Clyde about 15 minutes taxiing time downriver from the berth behind the Glasgow Science Centre. The actual flight lasts about 25 minutes. The seaplane lands near a floating pontoon near the island of Kerrera and a small boat completes the journey into Oban (North Pier).
En route to the seaplane....... Visible here are: BBC Scotlands new studios, Imax Cinema, Glasgow Science Centre, the Tower (Scotland's highest building) and paddle steamer Waverley (behind the Millenium Bridge).
The Cessna, nine-seater seaplane of Loch Lomond Seaplanes, operates services to Oban from the basin shown here, behind the Glasgow Science Centre.
Airborne!.........and flying over the Erskine Bridge.
Flying high............
..........and flying low!
A splash of sunshine over Loch Awe.
Circling over Oban, before landing in the Bay.
Splashdown!.....the island of Kerrera is in the background.
The seaplane berths alongside a floating pontoon.....
............and we leave it behind as we transfer to Oban town centre by boat.
