The Battle of Bombona
Ecuador, 7th April, 1822

Advancing on Quito, Bolivar encountered Garcia entrenched on high ground with a river at his flanks. He attacked the Royalist positions, but was repulsed. The Rifles, however, dislodged the Battalion Aragon, and the Royalists fell back. Bolivar had also ordered a retreat, and only discovered his victory on the following morning.
