Buffy: Paladin or Hero? Both work and as the base size is the same, you can try them both out. It's really a matter of taste and your own interpretation of the background. She is 'the chosen one', with 'superhuman' strength and her allowing Angel to take her blood was an act of potential self sacrifice. She is not squeeky clean but, by today's moral climate, reasonably virtuous. She would certainly make a poor general. The best reason for making her a Hero is the ability to recover from ensorcelment and reappear by the enemy stronghold.

It was difficult finding enough characters for a 24AP army and so I have taken a few liberties- I borrowed Wesley in biker mode from 'Angel' Series 1. I realise that 'The Initiative' are no longer good guys - but I suspect that Riley will hang around with Buffy for a while longer. Willow might do better as a Magician (the anti magic influence from both Paladin and Cleric would reflect Willow's inexperience as an effective witch) - in which case drop Angel and add another Horde.

This list is based on 'Buffy' as far as Series 4 'The I in Team'.With so many different troop types, it's a fairly chaotic army to handle.

I'd be tempted to have Xander, Anya and Cordelia on a single base as a Sneaker - they're pretty weak as fighters but often manage to sneak in the back door and rescue the would-be-sacrificial-victims while Buffy kicks demon bottom out front.

Having thought about it a little here is my alternative Buffy list based on characters who are alive (though not necessarily in Sunnydale) at the point the BBC are up to now (no spoilers here I believe):

1 Hero or Paladin (Buffy)

4AP

1 Hero (Angel)

4AP

1 Magician General (Giles, Willow and Tara)

4AP

1 Horde (Rest of the 'Scooby' Gang)

1AP

3 Shooters (Initiative Commando Squads)

6AP

1 Lurker (Spike Skulking in Bushes)

1AP

1 Beast (Oz)

2AP

1 Rider (Cordelia and Doyle in Angel's car)

2AP

Notwithstanding what I said about the 'scoobies' as a Sneaker element, here Horde seems appropriate to reflect their low fighting ability and remarkable ability to not die.

Spike as a Lurker seems to fit his post Hostile 17 persona. Oz, Angel and Angel's hangers on are included on the basis that they would come back for such a vital confrontation as might be modelled by HOTT. Tenuous I know.

Here’s a further alternative list, sometime towards the end of Series 5

Hero or Paladin (Buffy)  @ 4AP 1
Magician (Willow and Tara) @ 4AP 1
Knight General (Giles and Dawn with Giles’ car) @ 2AP 1
Shooters (Watcher’s Council retrieval team) @ 2AP 3
Behemoth (Xander and Anya with wrecking ball) @ 4AP 1
Beast (Oz and Verucca as werewolves) @ 2AP 1
Lurker (Spike) @ 1AP 1
Horde (Sunnydale citizens) @ 1AP 1

Stronghold: The Magic Box  (where else?)

Notes
Spike could be reclassified as a sneaker given his more “helpful” attitude in Season 5. Giles has been classified as a Knight given his tendency to rush in to help. Sunnydale citizens are a horde since their only role appears to hang around and be eaten. I’ve changed the shooter to the Watcher’s Council team as the figures I have fit them better than the Initiative (see below). Again a fairly chaotic army though the behemoth might provide a little more muscle.

Army Notes
This is a 15mm army (actually 1:100). The 'Scoobies', hordes, Watcher’s Council team and so on come from a set of 1:100 plastic architectural figures by Preiser with only minimal modifications (coat for spike and guns for the Watchers). The crane is a Thomas the Tank Engine item with 5mm or so cut from the bottom of the cab to reduce its height a bit with miliput ball. Giles’ car is a 1:100 VW architectural model from 4D Modelshop in London. The werewolves are 10mm wolves from Irregular Miniatures with an Essex gravestone and the other gravestones are from Hallmark figures. The Magic Box was scratchbuilt from plasticard.

The opposition's going to be a bit tricky as I need quite a few vampires to balance out the assorted demons. I'll probably end up converting some preiser figures but don't hold your breath! I've made a small start though and attach a photo of the mayor in human and snake form as a magician or behemoth general.
