Very enjoyable. I took my Lost Tribe of the Amazon army:
1 Hero General
1 Magician
7 Shooters
1 Water lurker (Pirania)
1 Lurker (Anaconda)
Any resemblence to a Squidly-Blot power shooter army is only co-incedence.
Game-1 vs Jim against Orcs
I defended. Placed river, marsh, woods. Got transverse river. Hid behind
river. Shot up orc warband and pirania dragged them screaming into the river
when they tried to cross. Anaconda mugged them when they came into the
marsh. Killed 12AP. Lost 0AP.
Game-2 vs Dean against Gnomes.
You know the ones. PP gnomes with fishing rods. I defended. Placed river,
marsh, woods. Got transverse river. Hid behind river. Dean was smart enough
not to try and cross, so I crossed to his side using the marsh. He did try
and cross back. Pirania dragged them screaming into the river. Anaconda
mugged them when they came into the marsh. Was a tough game as I did have to
come out and duke it out in the open. I zapped his magician (my magician
crossed over to get a clear shot without the %^&*%( river in the way).
Killed 12AP. Lost 10AP. Close game.
Game-3 vs Jon against some Conan thing with chook-riders, hero, etc.
I defended. Placed river, marsh, woods. Got transverse river. Hid behind
river. Another tough game with Jon getting a spear element onto my
stronghold. Luck held. Again, Jon crossed (actually got a few elements onto
my side of the river), and the Pirania dragged them screaming into the
river. My shooters shot up some of his cavalry. Not really sure how I won
this one, I was fighting it out on my side as he had broken through. He was
unlucky as I seem to remember my Hero cutting a swath through his troops.
Killed 12AP. Lost 8 or 10AP. Close game.
Game-4 vs David against some Martian thing with airboats.
I defended. Bugger the river, just placed marsh and woods. I advanced
quickly to contact. David was on the back foot immediately as I recoiled his
airboat into some woods. My Hero and Magician killed a few, but I got a few
troops from shooting. Killed 12AP. Lost 6 or 8AP. David was a bit annoyed
that his airboats didn't shoot (reading the rules might help here. ;-)). He
does have a point. They do in his POW on Mars rules!
We ended up playing a BBHOTT game afterward.
Jon was a bit miffed by the small turn out, but I keep saying he was just unlucky. I do think winter (yes, it is winter down here) Saturdays are quite bad since a lot of children are playing football and a lot of parents are driving them about. Given a different date, more luck and he would get about 8 or 10. I'd encourage him to run it next year. It (Servicemen's Club) is a great venue. It has beer......
