Cei's 'Hordes of the Things' Armies

Dwarf

TypeTroopsCost
1Blade General @ 2APDwarf King2
8Blades @ 2APDwarf Warriors16
2Warband @ 2APDwarf Beserkers4
1Shooter @ 2APDwarves with Crossbows2
4Riders @ 2APDwarves on Ponies8
1Hero @ 4APDwarf Champion4

In December 2003 I won a painted Dwarf army in a competition. Since Cei was expressing an interest in playing 'Hordes of the Things' at this point I gave it to him, after rebasing it and adding some extra troops. The astute reader will see that the army totals 36AP. This allows Cei to field a number of 24AP variants with a different character. Although the listed general is a blade, and this is the one most frequently used, one of the riders and the hero can both stand in as army commander if desired.

The majority of the foot figures are from Peter Pig's Dwarf army pack, although there are a number of old Ral Partha 15mm figures mixed in as well. The riders are 10mm Dwarf cavalry from Kallistra which I added to the army.

Wood Elf

List

TypeTroopsCost
1Magician General @ 4APElf King4
1Behemoth @ 4APEnts4
4Shooters @ 2APElves with Bow8
2Spears @ 2APElves with Spear4
2Riders @ 2APElf Cavalry4
1Magician @ 2APElf Sorceror4
Stronghold: A Grove of Trees

Notes

Cei had this army as a Christmas present, ready-based and painted. Once again it comes in at more than 24AP; it is designed so that the second magician can replace the Ent (or any two of the rank and file elements).

The figures are all from the Wild Elf army pack made by Mongoose Publishing. They are a little larger than standard 15mm, but not excessively so.

Cei used this army at BIFFHOTT 2005.

The Dukedom of Ceidonia

List

TypeTroopsCost
1Knight General @ 2APThe Duke of Ceidonia1
1Knight @ 2APKnights2
4Spears @ 2APPikemen8
2Blades @ 2APMen at Arms4
2Shooters @ 2APArchers and Crossbowmen4
1Behemoth @ 2APSteam Tank4
Stronghold: A Castle

Notes

At Berkeley 2004 I won a bag of unpainted 15mm Demonworld Empire troops. Cei decided to have them, but I ended up painting them.

Most of the army I made up from the Demonworld figures, but the steam tank is a model a made a few years ago for a Renaissance Italian army. Since that army is semi-retired it seemed fitting to transfer the model (with an improved paint scehme) to a new army.

Cei used this army at HOTTBAP 2005.

High Elf

List

TypeTroopsCost
1Magician General @ 4APElf King4
1Hero @ 4APElf Prince4
4Shooters @ 2APArchers8
4Knights @ 2APElven Cavalry8
Stronghold: A Castle

Notes

Cei was lucky enough to get this army after Bifrost in 2005 - it was the first prize in the HOTT competition there, which Cei failed to win in the very last game. His opponent very graciously gave it to him. The figures are from Mongoose Games' Mighty Armies game and are used with (seemingly) no conversions or changes.

Cei used this army at Berkeley 2005.

Wainriders

List

1Hero General @ 4APBarbarian King4
4Knights @ 2APWainriders8
4Warband @ 2APWarriors8
2Shooters @ 2APArchers4
Stronghold: A Stockade

Notes

The Wainriders are an army maide up entirely of Mongoose Productions' 15mm Barbarian army pack, designed for use with their Mighty Armies game, but easily adapted into a HOTT army.

Stronghold:

Notes

This army was built for the 'Kings and Queens' theme at HOTTBAP 2006. It is based on both versions of King Kong, and includes much artistic licence. Certainly 'opposing' forces have been lumped together, but the overall effect is fun and colourful.

Kong is a plastic toy gorilla from Schleich. A hacksaw blade was used to create scars, and these were painted in a suitable flesh colour, but otherwise he was left with the original paint scheme. Since the model was wider than 40mm, some creative basing was required, involving mounting him on a pile of rocks on each side of a gully. A Fay Wray figure was added to the base for scale; she is one of the 'screaming women' from the Cahriot Miniature sacrificing druids pack. The T-Rex is the Copplestone Castings Nanotyrannus, which is a small T-Rex at 28mm (its actual scale) but quite suitable as a 15mm big one. The small dinosaur is a plastic toy again. The natives are various 'tribal' figures from Chariot Miniatures' ancients range, whilst the armed sailors are militia from Peter Pig's Spanish Civil War range. The Pteranodon is from Irregular Miniatures 6mm dinosaur range, whilst teh creepy crawlies are a mixture of scratchbuilds (see my 'Horrors of the Dreamtime' army for details), plastic toy spiders and dungeon creatures from Tabletop Miniatures and Pendraken.
