By Rick Wynn

Good Guys
Hero general @ 4 (the Lord)
Hero @ 4 (the Ranger)
Magician @ 4 (the Wizard)
Blade @ 2 (the Dwarf)
2x Spear @ 2 (Hierlings)
3x Shooters @ 2 (Elves, hobbits, crossbowmen, etc.)

Bad Guys
Horde general @ 1 (the Dungeonmaster)
Dragon @ 4 (the Dragon)
Behemoth @ 4 (Giant, balrog, purple worm, etc.)
Sneaker @ 3 (wraith, ninja, invisible stalker, etc.)
2x Warband @ 2 (ogres, bugbears, trolls, etc.)
2x Lurker @ 1 (traps)
4x Horde @ 1 (orcs, skeletons, kobolds, giant rats, etc.)
Stronghold: Triple-trapped, magically warded treasure chamber

Terrain notes: A very great deal of the table is Bad Going, overwhelmingly in the form of Stone (impassable to all non-aerials except Lurkers (traps). A few bits of Chasm (as fordable Water) exist. Good going consists of hallways (uniformly scaled to be one, two, or three elements wide) and chambers.

Since the "good guys" cannot actually enter the Bad Going, the lurker deployment rule is altered to allow deployment whenever their opponents are adjacent to stone walls (basically, anytime they're not in a chamber, or when they've adopted a formation less wide than the hallway). Also, the stone sections count as "woods" for the Dragon (the only aerial), so that he can move over them (it's assumed he has a warren of tunnels) but must take care not to be driven into them.

Alternate elements include: Good guys - beasts (dogs), flyers (hawks or dragonnewts), paladins, clerics, hordes (phantasmal forces). The basic structure of 4 AP - heavy force should be retained, and aerial heroes should be disallowed. Bad guys could feature gods (demons), beasts (you name it), more behemoths, shooters (black magicians), blades (black knights, evil elves), etc.

Presentation suggestion: Use 25mm figures from the olde D&D days (which may, or may not, be behind you) on 15mm-scale bases. Table-top is 60cm x 60cm, "gridded" into 4cm x 4cm squares, with stone wall sections composed of groups of these grids (like Tetris-pieces), perhaps made of cardboard or polystyrene, suitably painted. Add skeletons, book racks, rotting furniture, broken doors, etc. to taste. Could be a way to tempt the young and misguided away from the Dark Side...
