The Elements
An Army List for 'Hordes of the
Things'
By Jeff Herbert
Having cast my mind in search of the most bizarre HOTT Army I struck upon this idea. Man has been at odds with the elements ever since his arrival on the planet and many an army and fleet have been destroyed or beaten by bad weather and the elements. This army has certain things going for it, the main one being that you shouldn’t need to buy much if you are a half decent scratch builder.
PALADIN (THE PERFECT DAY) - We all have our own vision of a perfect day; just keep it respectable. Perhaps a riverbank, a picnic hamper and a contented sleeper.
SHOOTERS (HAILSTONES) - A cotton-wool cloud and some perspex with semolina stuck to it, plus more semolina on the base.
SPEARS (WIND) - Various Ways to depict this, pencil sharpener fans, or heads with puffed up cheeks and pursed lips.
WARBAND (BLIZZARD, SANDSTORM) - Vertical sheets of Perspex all with sand or semolina stuck to them.
BEHEMOTH (TORNADO, LANDSLIDE, EARTHQUAKE) – The tornado is a corkscrew with cotton wool twirled around it; the other two are easy.
BLADES (LIGHTNING) – Cotton-wool clouds with lightning strikes arcing down.
BEASTS (FOUL WEATHER) - Beastly cold biting rain, needs to be depicted by wind blowing rain forward.
MAGICIAN (MIRAGE) - Palm tree reflected in several mirrors.
SNEAKER (MIST) - Knee high cotton wool strands
KNIGHTS (FOUL BLACK MOONLESS NIGHT) - A black cube.
HORDES (MINOR BAD WEATHER PATCHES) - Little bits of all of the above.
CLERIC (BRIGHT DAZZLING SUNSHINE) - An electric light-bulb.
FLYERS (BITS CAUGHT UP BY THE WIND) - Branches etc just flying around.
LURKER (BLACK CLOUD) - Black cotton-wool.
RIDERS (FOG) - White fluffed up cotton-wool with vague shapes in the middle.
FLYERS (SMALL TWISTERS) - Not as powerful as a big tornado.
STRONGHOLD - A dark patch of land.
