Julian May's 'Saga of the Exiles'
Army
Lists for 'Hordes of the Things'
By Richard Crawley
Here are the Saga of the Exiles armies I'm working on.
The Lowlife/Firvulag Assault on Finiah
Stronghold: section of broken wall with beached boats outside.
| 1 x Shooter General (Chief Burke and Vosges Lowlives with iron weapons) | 1 |
| 1x Airboat (Richard, Claude and Mme Guderian in the exotic flyer) | 1 |
| 3x Hordes (Outlander Lowlives) | 3 |
| 1x Hero (Sharn the younger, 3m long albino scorpion) | 1 |
| 1x Magician (powerful Firvulag illusionists) | 1 |
| 4x Hordes (other Firvulag) | 4 |
Alternatives: replace two Hordes with one element of Spears.
I did think of replacing the Airboat with a God to represent the power of the Spear of Lugonn but as the battle doesn't (can't) start until the Spear penetrates the city walls I didn't think a late arriving flyer was reasonable. Treating the bulk of the Firvulag as Hordes reflects their large numbers and vulnerability to Tanu mounted troops. The alternative Spears reflect the anti-cavalry tactics adopted by the Lowlives towards the end of the battle.
Tanu Defenders of Finiah
Stronghold: Tanu building with strings of crystal
lights
| 1x Aerial Hero General (Lord Velteyn of Finiah on Chaliko) | 1 |
| 2x Flyers (Mounted Tanu - The Hunt) | 2 |
| 3x Blades (Gray Torc human soldiers with swords) | 3 |
| 1x Magician (Tanu Creator) | 1 |
| 2x Knights (Tanu or Grey torc cavalry on chalikos) | 2 |
Any thoughts on how these might interact? I suspect Velteyn will see off the Airboat pretty quickly (as indeed he does in the book). The Lowlives will have to rely on shooting or zapping him and getting lucky I guess.
