Quicksand
A kaiju stuck in quicksand or a tarpit need to beat 15 with its strength dice in order to escape. Whilst many kaiju ara strong, not all are - a kaiju with only 2D6 of strength can never escape, and even 3D6 gives very low odds of escape (just under 10%). This change improves the chance of escape.
A kaiju stuck in quicksand or a tar-pit rolls to escape as a free action. If the player chooses to spend half their move breaking out, then the kaiju adds an extra D6 to their strength roll. In this case they may then only either attack or move having broken out. If they choose to spend the whole move breaking out then they add two extra D6 to their strength roll but can take no other action that turn.
Characteristic Values
When designing creatures it is useful to have some idea of relative characteristic values. This chart is based on an examination of the kaiju provided in the original 'Monster Island' rules. When designing a new kaiju simply decide whether a given characteristic should be 'Weak', 'Average' or 'Strong', then select the appropriate values from the table.
| Puny | Weak | Average | High | Extreme | ||
| Strength | 2-3 | 4-5 | 6-7 | 8-9 | 10 | |
| Reflexes | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | - | |
| Health | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | |
| Mind | - | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4-5 |
Earth-Based Missiles and Tracking Satellites
In scenarios set in Earth orbit, the human player may buy missile strikes which function in exactly the same way that they do on 'Escape from Monster Island'. These represent Earth-launched missiles. As a Bombardement attack they can only be directed by a unit with the Targetting special ability. This can be assigned to a unit as required by the scenario; a space-station acting as an HQ would be an obvious choice, or a designated assault shuttle. However Earth orbit also contains satellites capable of pinpointing and tracking targets for Earth defences. These satellites have an Evade of 10 and a Toughness of 4 and are destroyed by any hit that exceeds their Toughness. They are considered to have the Targetting special ability.
