Naboo Defence Force

An Army List for ‘Hordes of the Things’

By John James

This army list came about after seeing a HOTT tournament at a local club in Bristol. One of the members had produced a load of Star Wars armies using micro machines. It occurred to me that although I was loopy about Star Wars simply copying his armies would be unoriginal. Luckily we have a wealth of possible armies from Episodes I to III; e.g. Clones, Geonosians, Wookies (Lord help us!), Numideons etc. Not wanting to wipe out my bank balance with buying 25mm collectable WOC figures, the 1/76 scale micro-machines are a bargain. The aesthetically minded Naboo make a really colourful army as well!

Anyway, from the Home Office on Naboo:

Hero General (Queen Amidala) @ 4AP

1

1-3 Shooters (Palace Guard) @ 2AP

1-3

1-4 Warband (Naboo Security Troopers) @ 2AP

1-4

2-3 Flyers (N1 Star-fighter) @ 2AP

2-3

Dragon (Royal Star-ship) @ 4AP

1

Airboat (Theed speeder) @ 3AP

1

Stronghold         Theed palace

Alternatives: Magician General @ 4AP or Knight @ 2AP (Qui Gon and Kenobi), Cleric @ 3AP (Sio Bibble), Sneaker (Captain Panaka or Jar Jar and R2 D2), Dragon @ 4AP (N1 Star-fighter - if you prefer the bigger model)

This army goes well with the Gungan and Trade Federation army lists also on the Stronghold.

Figure notes:

N1 fighter: comes in 1/300 scale or 1/72 scale hence the flyer or dragon classification.

Palace Guard: there are no palace guard figures. Luckily these guys look remarkably similar to the rebel fleet troopers from Star Wars IV. A simple paint job conversion will suffice, silver helmet with black front plate, red trousers, leather brown boots, mid brown shirt, Dark red-brown jacket.

Security troopers: The peaceful Naboo don’t maintain a standing army but do have a militia and police force. There is a set of security troops Micro Machines mislabelled Palace Guard but these go for up to £15 on e-bay.

Stronghold: You can scratch-build your own or use any of the awful playsets: Naboo Hanger, Theed Rapids, Theed Palace and what not.

Airboat: the die-cast Theed speeder is not too big. Or you could fit the two 1/300 scale ones on a stand to make a vignette (small diorama).

Why is Sio Bibble, the annoying Naboo Prime Minister, a cleric? Well Nute Gunray, the baddie Viceroy was a cleric (sneaker more likely) in my Trade Federation Army list. So why this classification? Well they look like clerics dressed in robes, basically. As politicians they influence events, I suppose, in HOTT its best not to get too serious. I just needed some anti-magic.
