'Nausicaa From The Valley Of The Wind'
A 'Hordes of the Things' Army List

By Kent McClure

Well here is another Army List from the world of anime, as I recently saw "Nausicaa from the Valley of the Wind". In the movie, there is a country called Torumekia that takes over Nausicaa's valley in their (the Torumekians) attempt to recover something called a God Soldier. The Torumekians have nothing specific against Nausicaa's people; they just happen to be in the Torumekians way as they attempt to reclaim the Wastelands. In any case, on to the list and after the actual list itself will be an explanation as to what the troops look like.

Torumekian Army from "Nausicaa from the Valley of the Wind"

Torumekian Corvette or GunshipAirboat1 @ 3AP3
Torumekian TankArtillery1 @ 3AP3
Option: God Soldier as a Behemoth @ 4AP

Now for the descriptions:

Princess Kushana wears a white cape and tunic over plate armor which is gold in color. Her right arm might have been unarmored. I need to double check. On her stand she could have her Chief-of-Staff, Korukawa. He has a thin beard and moustache, and wears a cape over a tunic. Reminded me a lot of a prince in court attire.

The Torumekian Swordsmen and Riflemen were pretty similiar except for choice of weapons. Both are wearing capes over plate armor. There helmets are sort of pointy bascinets. The most unique feature of these troops are the tall gorgets that protect the neck area. The shields that the swordsmen use are tall, narrow kite shields that reminded me of Norman shields with their tops flattened out. Swords were the normal two edged, cut and thrust variety.

The Torumekian corvette/gunship could be easily protrayed by using one of the aircraft from the game Crimson Sky. Sort of a Luftwaffe '46 project gone ugly.

The Torumekian tank reminded me a lot of the tank designs used for Warhammer 40K. You know the type. Large exposed tracks running around a rhomboid shaped body with a turret and a large stumpy gun in it.

The God Soldier is probably the most difficult to do. Imagine a plastic figure dipped in a model cement that works by melting the plastic together. He towers over all the people and has a very nasty beam projector that eminates from his mouth. He was organically "grown" but pulled into use before he had stabilized. Hence, he is breaking down.
