Pokemon in HOTT
By Kent McClure
Well, I said that I was working on another anime related list and here it is - Pokemon HoTT! For those of you who are not familiar with pokemons (i.e., you don't have kids), they are pocket monsters which you capture, train and then compete them against other pokemon trainers in battles. One of the standing rules when battling pokemon is that you can only use up to 3 pokemon, one at a time, for a battle. There's a lot more to it than this simple explanation, but that is not necessary for this list. What made this list a challenge was that I had to keep it in context with the series. The three main characters have different types of pokemon, so that had to be factored in. And when all was said and done, I had to add in a couple of "wild" pokemon from the series that appeared to help out.
So, enough talk and on to the actual list.
Warband General (Ash, with Misty and Brock on one stand) @ 2 pts
Shooter (Ash's Pikachu) @ 2 pts
Shooter (Ash's Squirtle) @ 2 pts
Flyer (Ash's Pidgeotto) @ 2 pts
Warband (Brock's Geodude) @ 2 pts
Beast (Brock's Vulpix) @ 2 pts
Flyer (Brock's Zubat) @ 2 pts
Water Lurker (Misty's Horsea) @ 1 pt
Water Lurker (Misty's Staryu) @ 1 pt
Magician (Misty's Psyduck) @ 4 pts
Snealer ( Haunter, a ghost type pokemon) @ 3
Horde (Diglet, a burrowing type pokemon) @ 1
Some possible options:
Behemoth (Brock's Onix) @ 4 pts
Dragon (Ash's Charizard) @ 4 pts
Blade (Ash's Krabby) @ 2 pts
Rider (Ponyta, a horselike fire pokemon) @ 2 pts
Flyer (Ash's Butterfree) @ 2 pts
Magician (Mew, a psychic pokemon) @ 4 pts
If you want to do a more general pokemon list, I broke down the pokemon types as follows:
Ghost type pokemon are either sneakers or flyers
Psychic pokemon are either magicians (offensive psychic powers) or clerics (defensive psychic powers)
Fighting type pokemon are warbands or hordes
Any pokemon that projects something is a shooter
Any pokemon that utilizes fang or claw is a beast
Water type pokemon are lurkers (water lurkers, that is)
Horse type pokemon are riders
Unusually large pokemon are behemoths
Dragonlike pokemon are dragons
Flying pokemon are flyers
If you are still confused, watch the show and it will make perfect sense. Well, sort of?
