'Who Do You Think You Are Kidding, Mr Mordred?' or 'Le Morte d'Uncle Arthur'
Army Lists for 'Hordes of the Things'
by Alan Saunders
with assistance from Richard Crawley
(From an original idea by Stuart Roe)

Does a German invasion of Britain in 1940 counts a sufficiently deadly danger for Arthur to rise from his sleep and defend the Isle? These lists assume that it is.

Britain

1 x Hero General (Arthur, awakened) @ 4AP
1 x Knight (The Knights of the Round Table, also awakened) @ 2AP
1 x Behemoth (Bison, Cockatrice, or, if you are lucky, a real army tank such as the Matilda Mk I) @ 4AP
1 x Artillery (Northover projector, Smith gun or similar, but not the 2pdr as it had no HE capability) @ 3AP
1 x Lurker (Fougasse or similar boobytrap) @ 1AP
2 x Blades (Regular army) @ 2AP
1 x Flyer (The Last of the Few) @ 2AP
2 x Lurkers (Stay-behind parties or Home Guard with sticky bombs) @ 1AP
2 x Hordes (Home Guard with improvised weapons, including pikes. Ironically, if any are called 'Pike' then they should have the Tommy gun) @ 1AP
1x Water Lurker (Coastal oil dispenser) @ 1AP

Notes: The Northover Projector - a one- or two-barrelled smoothbore firing ammunition described as a catering size jam tin full of White Phosphorus.
The Smith Gun - a 75mm gun designed to be towed behind a car, to fire it you tipped it over onto its side and used one of the wheels as a turntable.
The Sticky Bomb - a grenade with a breakeble outer casing covering glue which was supposed to stick the thing to its target. It tended to stick it to the thrower.
The Fougasse - a drum or two of fuel oil with a white phosphorus grenade to trigger it. Designed to spill burning oil across the road.
Coastal Oil Dispensers - pump oil into the sea, set it alight, hey presto - burning sea, scorched landing barges. Tried once, hugely expensive of scarce fuel, ineffective in rough weather.
The Notorious Pike - short spears were issued to some Home Guard Units later on. Their guns were actually taken away and replaced by them!

Germany

1 x Behemoth general (Panzers) @ 4AP
1 x Artillery (Take your pick, plenty to choose from) @ 3AP
4 x Blades (German infantry) @ 2AP
2 x Flyers (The Luftwaffe) @ 2AP
1 x Rider (Motorcycle reconnaisance troops) @ 2AP
1 x Sneaker (Fifth columnists or suspicious looking nuns - FAA do figures for the latter in 20mm) @ 3AP

Alternatives: God (Cthulhoid elder god summoned by Nazi occultists to oppose Arthur) @ 4AP
