Shinyu

Probable Origin: Prehistoric Beast
First Recorded appearance: Shanghai, China, 1978
Threat Level: High

History: Deep below the Pacific Ocean lay the advanced undersea city of Mu. For long ages it had thrived, but now climate changes and tectonic activity made life impossible for its reptilian inhabitants and they devised a means whereby they could enter suspended animation and wait until the Earth's climate was once again suitable for them. To protect them as they slept they created a mighty serpentine sea-creature, Shinyu. For thousand of years Shinyu protected the sleeping inhabitants of Mu, until a sea-quake trapped it in its cave. In the 1970s a Chinese deep-sea exploration mission found the remnants of Mu and, unwittingly, recovered the crystalline device that provided the city's power. This device was shipped back to the mainland for study, but in the meantime the expedition continued their explorations, eventually unsealing the cave in which Shinyu lay trapped. Released, the enraged creature destroyed the expedition, before following the trail of the power source to Shanghai. Laying waste to much of the city Shinyu recovered the crystal, then returned to the ocean to resume its long vigil.
