Steel Mercenaries Fighting in Ancient Greece – Part1
A
Battle Report
By Alexei Gartinski

Steel Mercenaries are a group of Behemoths, Magicians, Heroes, Paladins and Dragons that came out of a Mage Knight starter pack and a few Yu-Gui-Oh action figures. They are not an army as such, but just that – mercenaries. They are “hired” into my existing DBA Early Hoplite Greek, Spartans and Alexandrian Macedonian armies. So here is the account of their first battle…

The attacking Greeks (with their back to us) decided to support their core of 8 Spear with 1 Behemoth and 2 Flyers. They kept the overall control with their Spear General. Macedonians recruited 2 Behemoths and 1 Dragon into their army of 4 Spear, 1 Warband and 2 Hordes. They trusted the “foreigner” more than the Greeks and appointed one of their Behemoths as General. Both armies deployed symmetrically, the Macedonians left their General in the rear.

The defending Macedonians started the battle moving their entire battle line forward. The Greeks followed suit. Macedonians kept advancing, leaving their Behemoth General behind.

This was not left unnoticed: the Greek right wing Flyer dashed towards the Macedonian General but was blocked by the Macedonian Horde.
