General Tactics
Alan Saunders writes:
Here are my personal tactics when playing HOTT:
- First and foremost, no enemy can resist a consistent series of good die rolls. Make sure every roll you make is a '5' or '6' and you can't go far wrong.
- I like to operate any given army as two flanks and a centre I hold with one flank and attack with the other. The centre should be used to pin the enemy in place, launching its own attack if the flank one fails - more so if it succeeds. The holding flank can be anchored on terrain or just be made up of resistant troops.
- Keep your nerve. The enemy may be advancing on your Stronghold; they may have cavalry in your rear, but don't panic. A bold attack on your part will force them to spend PIPs holding you off rather than moving the forces that are causing you trouble.
- Aim for the enemy general. If you can match the enemy loss for loss, then his death will win you the game.
