A Friday Night in Tring
By Ian Thompson

There were three games on Friday night, gentle reader, and I am pleased to report that the newly completed Reptilian Forces of Good and Niceness are now currently undefeated after their first two battles.

The games were:

Game One

Thomo the Lost, emulating his distant relation, Thomli the Locationally Disenfranchised, as a brilliant general took the reptiles out for their maiden battle (if you'll pardon the pun) against the Amazons. The Amazons were generaled by Robin the Long from Tring and defended their homelands against the pre-emptive counter-attack of the Reptiles. The Amazons were deployed between two woods whilst the Reptiles had some open ground in front of them and a hill to their left. They attacked.

Thomo the Lost had noticed that when your army consists of three behemoths and six hordes, subtlety takes on a whole new meaning and all forces closed as quickly as possible with the Little Ladies. The Pterosaur overflew the Amazons ranks to cause a degree of discombobulating with the Ladies, especially when it launched a rear attack. The Reptile riders concentrated on protecting the flanks of the hordes.

The Behemoths cleared the centre of the field and whilst the odd horde dies, casualties to the Reptiles were light (the Pterosaur ... err which died in both battles and a couple of hordes). The Amazon Queen went down under a Behemoth and never game back up. At that point, the Amazons had lost 8AP and

the Reptiles 7AP so the result was victory 1 for the forces of good and light!

Game Two

Here the Martians under Jeffro, Mapmaker and Cartographer to Thomo the Lost defended against the Lizards under George the Stout. The Lizards deployed in open ground and the Martians between two woods with a hill to their backs. The Lizards came forward as did the Martians. There was some Aerial dog fighting between the Martian flyers and the Pterosaur until the Pterosaur become a victim after being caught by some ground troops when supporting a Behemoth attack. Meanwhile the Airboats bravely battled the Behemoths whilst the Martian swordsmen were engaged by the Hordes. The Hordes died bravely against the blades but at one point, managed to eliminate a blade in the woods. Meanwhile, the airboats were being slapped from the skies by the Behemoths and it looked like all was lost for the Martians. At this point John Carter rushed in and engaged a Behemoth. The other Behemoths advanced on the Martian stronghold, taking the stronghold in the end (and saving John Carter from an inglorious death under a flipper of the Reptilian Behemoth.

Game Three

George the Stout using the Martians this time faced Robin the Long, defending again with the Amazons. The terrain again was two woods on the flanks narrowing the centre of the table. The Amazons moved to the area between the woods and put their bows in the woods to cause consternation to the advancing Martians. The Martian Aerials ran the gauntlet of the shooters whilst the Red Men of Mars advanced steadily upon the Amazon Swordsmen and War Bands. The battle ebbed to and fro for a while until eventually the fire from the Amazon bows reduced the effectiveness of the Martian Airboats and at the same time, John Carter was engaged by the Amazon Queen. Numerous other battles occurred at the same time but it was the gentlemen Carter who could not bring himself to fight a woman. The Amazons were victorious.

So, three games, Lizards won 2, Amazons won 1 and the Martians lost to all. The good thing about this night was that the other three players are all Role Players and GW players. They enjoyed HotT so much that we have decided to hold a tournament later this year in August.
