NOKIA

A few people have asked how to get the ringtones on this site onto their phone.  My phone is a Nokia 3210, and the instructions below will apply to that.  It is possible that they will also apply to other Nokia phones, but I can't be 100% sure.  If in doubt, use common sense, or even the phone's instruction manual.

1.  Go into the 'Tones' section of the phone (Menu 9).

2.  Select 'Composer' (Menu 9-3).

3.  Hold down the 'C' button (above the '1' button) to delete any tone previously stored in the phone's memory.

4.  Carefully press the buttons as written in the 'What To Type' section of the ringtone's instructions.  These buttons correspond to the musical notes from C-B, and you can also reduce and increase the length of the note, change the pitch, add a rest (i.e. a pause) and sharpen a note.  The diagram below shows which keys correspond to which note / characteristic, although if you follow the site's instructions for the ringtone carefully, there is no need to worry about it.

N.B.  If '(long)' is written as an instruction under what keys to press, this means you need to hold the previous key down a little while longer, until a second beep is heard.  This makes the note half as long again.

5.  If any mistakes are made, then you can use the up/down buttons to move between the notes on screen, and the 'C' button will delete a note.

6.  After you have completed the tone, press the '-' button (above the '2' button) which brings up the options screen.  Choose one of the functions below, and press '-' (OK).

Play: Plays back the notes to the left of the cursor.

Save: Allows you to name the tone and add it to the ringtone list.

Tempo: Allows you to select the desired tempo (speed) for the tone.  On this site, the tempo is given after the tone's title.

Send: Allows you to send the tone to another phone.

Clear screen: Deletes all the notes from the display.

Exit: Exits the composer back to the ringtone menu.

SIEMENS

At the moment I don't have access to a Siemens phone, so I'm looking for someone to help me work out what keys to press.  If you think you can help, you can e-mail me here.

All I can say at the moment is to use your phone's instruction book, or search around on the Internet for composer instructions.

If, once the tone is typed in, you find it too fast, just double the notes' length by halving the second number in the brackets (e.g, E3(1/8) would become E3(1/4).  If the tone is too slow, double the second number in the brackets (e.g, E3(1/8) would become E3(1/16).

ERICSSON

My phone is a Ericsson SH888, and the instructions below will apply to that.  It is possible that they will also apply to other Ericsson phones, but I can't be 100% sure.  If in doubt, use common sense, or even the phone's instruction manual.

1.  Go into the 'Settings' section of the phone (Menu 7).

2.  Select 'Edit Melody' (Menu 7-3).

3.  Hold down the 'C' button (above the up/down buttons) to delete any tone previously stored in the phone's memory.

4.  Carefully press the buttons as written in the 'What To Type' section of the ringtone's instructions.  These buttons correspond to the musical notes from C-B, and you can also change the pitch, add a rest (i.e. a pause) and sharpen a note.  The diagram below shows which keys correspond to which note / characteristic, although if you follow the site's instructions for the ringtone carefully, there is no need to worry about it.

N.B.  If '+' is written as an instruction under what keys to press, this means you need to hold the previous key down a little while longer, until a second beep is heard.  This makes the note half as long again.

5.  If any mistakes are made, then you can use the up/down buttons to move between the notes on screen, and the 'C' button will delete a note.

6.  After you have completed the tone, press the 'Yes' button (above the '1' button) which brings up the ‘Ready?’ question. Listen to it, and if it’s installed correctly, press ‘Yes’ button.
