ST. MARYS PARISH CHURCH AND MANOR FARM DUCK POND

The parish church at Aldridge was founded by Nicholas de Alrewych in 1250. It contains the effigy of Nicholas together with the cross-legged figure of Robert De Stapleton, son of John De Stapleton, who had resided in the manor of Stapleton in Shropshire before his death in 1272. Robert is depicted in armour, with his feet resting on a lion, and carrying his shield with its defiant fantailed rampant lion. Robert de Stapleton was a great soldier who had been involved in fighting the Welsh in 1295 before entering into battle at Flanders in 1297 and action against the Scots in 1301
