ALDRIDGE HIGH STREET - Taken from where ' SHAPERS' now stands looking down towards the 'ELMS ISLAND' Shapers occupies shop units which formerly housed the popular stationers and record store 'KINGS CASTLE'. These shop units are built on the site of the old CROOK COTTAGES which were of significant architectural interest and are a great loss

 

 

 THE CROOK COTTAGES High Street Aldridge . These are the buildings to the left in the picture above (left) and which in addition to being residential dwellings also housed at different times during their history, the village Post Office, the first Telephone Exchange in Aldridge, a Bank and a Thomas's Green Grocery shop (Still trading today in Rookery Lane). The above picture (right) shows their demolition in the1960's

 

 

 

HIGH STREET - ALDRIDGE Taken from outside Lloyds TSB looking towards the Church as it is today and as it was in the early 1900's with the original black and white timbered 'ELMS HOTEL' on the opposite side of the road where the Italian restaurant is now located .

 

The view below right, shows the row of shops situated beyond the Elms Hotel and before the junction with Rookery Lane. 

 

The view above left, shows the Manor Cottages which stood in High Street on the site now occupied by the Aldridge Social Club opposite Shapers.
