I was born in Scotland in 1642. I was an only child. My mother, Jesda Hope Les Case moved me down to London when I was 3 so that I could be with my father, Rich'Ard Case who was a very well-established Captain of the seas. My father had many achievements to his name but he was most proud of his beautiful ship called 'The Destiny'. By the time I was 8 my father became a Privateer (a legitimate Pirate), I was already part of the crew by then and soon after my father gave me my very first Pistol which I still have to this very day. A Pistol though was not a Pirates favourite weapon, good heavens no, a Pirates favourite weapon was the dagger because this meant that you really knew how to fight - and kill! By the age of 10, I had learned to use the pike, which was used for thrusting any boarding Pirates off of the ship. Over the next few years I also learned carpentry, which was a goodness gracious by golly, not so jolly job if ever there was one. You see the tools that I used were pretty similar to our ships' surgeons' tools and yes, you guessed it, one day our surgeon was blown away - so guess who had to deal with all the horrible stuff… Anyway, that was a few years later when I was about 16 and around this time I was also learning the tricks of the many trades from my Great Uncle, Edward Case. Eddy was a great guy to be around but was often misunderstood by many. He could be a right 'eadcase at times. He had a short fuse and even I have found myself at the end of that short fuse a few too many times but by golly, he certainly knew his stuff.
Many years later I left my fathers side to join the crew of The Virtuosity, a 28-gun ship, formidable in its speed and manoeuvrability but weak in its defences. Faithful to my crew, I was given the chance to captain the ship after a run-in with a French ship called La Grande in which our captain was killed outright and his second badly injured, but my main duty lay in keeping the vessel ship shape and I relinquished command shortly after we boarded La Grande and stripped her of her valuables.
During my time on board The Virtuosity I crossed paths with a chap called Justin Time - a very strange person indeed. As well as being very mysterious, he was also one of the oldest sailors I'd ever met and claimed to be really good friends with Captain Kidd - a legitimate Pirate who was getting quite a reputation as more of a kidder than a Pirate! (In fact that was one of the two nicknames that he was more commonly known as; Captain Kidder & Captain Kindly.) Justin Time was a New Yorker and came from a very wealthy family and like my father, he too had accomplished many things during his time as a Privateer. He had also broken many records and even set a whole bunch of new ones. As well as holding the record for oldest Privateer, he also held records for best code of conduct (in all of Justin Time's years as a legitimate Pirate only a handful of his crew members had ever left to join another crew), quickest capture of a ship, fewest casualties and ship most seaworthy.
Such a fine ship it was too. It was called Little Star but it was by no means little. I was given a tour of the ship as both crews got lively and mingled and I was overwhelmed at how sophisticated everything looked, I'm sure there were things there that even the best Buccaneers had never seen before. The equipment I saw (I was forbidden from entering the engine room) certainly wasn't standard issue but Justin Time informed me that it was becoming standard throughout the top class Pirate ships and that his ship was the first of many to be fitted with so many new contraptions. Later, after downing several barrels of the finest rum with the rest of the crew, we said our goodbyes and departed on our separate ways. I was later to discover that Justin Time was in fact an inventor and built almost all of the Little Star's contraptions himself…
Years later after many successful legitimate raids on other ships and myself having built up an established trading reputation in 'the good stuff', our ship was struck by another, unmarked vessel on one of the most viciously cold dark stormy nights that there had ever been. This was in an area of the sea known as The Hoodoo Sea or Devil's Triangle. Up until six months previous, Captains had been warned before setting out to sea to stay away from this area as strange occurrences had been reported. There had been talk of how the weather would suddenly change, storms like no other had been reported and oddest of all was the story of how a strange, ghost-like metal creature would appear as if from nowhere and then vanish again. Reports spoke of strange noises coming from either the wind or the creature that was referred to by some as the Devil in a Beast and Ghost in the Machine by others. From what I remember seeing, the vessel (for that's what it looked like to me) was sleek, black, long and made from some strange metal. It was heading straight for us and there was nothing we could do, for at the moment we saw it, it was already too late. All I remember when it hit was being flung into the water with the force the vessel struck us at and scrambling to grab a piece of the wreckage afterwards in order to stay afloat and hopefully stay alive.
I don't know how long I drifted for. When I awoke, it took me a little while to adjust to the light, everything was peaceful, calm and then… I was being lifted, the light almost blinded me, it was a wondrous feeling, as if I was floating, I could hear harmonious sounds of people singing something about reaching for the stars, if this was heaven then I wanted to stay forever. It was just incredible… "Just incredible!" I said aloud.
"No! It's Justin Credible" I heard a voice reply. "You were lucky I was in the vicinity my friend, why, a hero's work is never done. No need to thank me now, here… rest for a while. When you next awake you can tell me all about your run-in with that cut-throat of a Pirate, Captain Kidd."
"Captain Kidd… but…" I replied. "No, do not speak now, rest my friend for you will surely need it!"
For the dear life of me I had absolutely no idea what was going on and in all my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined what I was going to be told when I awoke a day or so later.
When I did awake, my first thoughts were with the rest of my crew but when I asked about them, no answers were forthcoming. When I had had something to eat and had recovered sufficiently, I was taken out of my cabin and led to the deck where I was formally introduced by another crewmember to Justin Credible who I thanked for saving my life. There was also another face which I had seen before which belonged to Justin Time. Once again, I asked about my crew but instead was asked to tell my story. After I told it both Justin Credible & Justin Time looked at each other. There was a silence. Justin Time was the first to speak and gradually he told me all I ever needed to know plus a lot I didn't want to know!
"To cut a long story short, I'm the Captain of an experimental submarine called the Tardis de Enterprise which is part of a secret governmental project looking into the existence of interdimensional time holes in the space time continuum. I built the sub through extensive research and experiments carried out in the Bermuda Triangle which you probably more commonly know as the 'Devil's Triangle'. I have been carrying out these experiments over the last ten years or so and when I first met you, I believe it was in… 1675… Yes? Well to you it was 1675 but to me it was a blip that is but a moment of my lifetime. You see I was not a part of that time, I my friend, was from a different time! No… don't say a word, let me finish… The ship you saw me on was one that I managed to acquire through the delivery of some valuable goods. You see… whilst running one of my experiments in the year 2099 I became stranded. The only way I could get back to my own time was by obtaining a map to rediscover that special trinket that had been uncovered by Captain Kidd during the burial of his infamous treasure on Long Island. Captain Kidd new that the trinket was quite unlike any other, he deemed it to be of very great value and went to great lengths to conceal it. His map lay lost until the center of the 21st Century and as part of the mission to discover the origins of the powerful trinket, a timeship was built. Unfortunately though it could only be powered by this one all powerful trinket and when this got smashed it set off a chain reaction of events all around the area now known as the Bermuda Triangle and the repercussions have been felt in all our histories. In the time I came from there was never a Bermuda Triangle! Because of me, ships, planes and even entire fleets have gone missing in the Bermuda Triangle. Up until that time I had merely been an observer to the past - it was forbidden for my research team and I to in any way communicate with people from different timelines in case it affected our own timeline.
So, after I exchanged some goods for the Little Star and got some Pirate clobber for my own crew, I set about trying to locate Captain Kidd. It was not until many years later, on the night your ship was rammed, that I finally found what I was looking for. There was an almighty storm that night and Captain Kidd and I had a secret rendezvous in the center of the triangle. He had learned of what I was looking for through my darned haste to find the object. I thought that the Tardis de Enterprise had remained a closely guarded secret by the crew and I, but I was wrong…
The exchange was for the Little Star and all its possessions for the trinket and Captain Kidd's ship. This was solely on Kidd's terms because he needed valuable booty to keep his men happy and a new ship because his own one was not very seaworthy.
Anyway, the exchange took place and I used his ship to get back to where I had left the Tardis de Enterprise. What I did not know was that one of my crewmembers had let slip a few things he shouldn't have when he got just a bit too drunk. Actually, that's where the term 'loose lips sink ships' originated. When I reached the destination, which was only a few miles south of where I met Captain Kidd, I took out my special control to bring my sub to the surface. The crew and I climbed aboard and into the sub. The hatch was closed but we were not aware that someone else had followed us from the boat. When I got to the engine room, I inserted the special trinket and everything sprang into life. Electric currents flowed around the outer hull and then I was struck from behind. With the rest of the crew on other areas of the ship, my call went unheard. I was struck again and knocked out. When I awoke, Captain Kidd and the rest of his crew were on board but they weren't going anywhere because I was the only person who knew how to use the trinket to operate the ship. I could see that some of my crew who had been brought down to the engine room were fully kitted out in all their gear and I smiled into myself as I was asked to start up the sub. I turned the trinket around and a massive burst of energy filled the engine room. Everyone who wasn't wearing protective clothing fell in an instant and it was only the quick response by my crew who were still standing that helped me regain control of the ship and save my life. Unfortunately, the sudden energy burst caused massive fluctuations around a vast surrounding area outside the ship and after flinging Kidd and his companions into the brig we discovered that we were not where we were supposed to be. Justin Credible, who was on board his Antonio ship at the time, also ended up here where we all are now.
Now we have put Captain Kidd in a secure facility on board the boat until we can get him back to good old blighty. His right hand - Eye Patch is also being looked at in the medical bay. "
"Oooh Arr that's what you think Justin - your time's up! Take us back to whence we came and free the rest of our crew right now or have your doctor die a thousand deaths!"
So that's how I got where I am today. Eyepatch took the doctor hostage, got her Captain free and then just as they were about to release their crew upon us yet again, Justin Credible flew in and saved the day - or at least he would have done had I not joined in. The fight led back towards the engine room and sparks flew as the swords clashed but just as it looked like we had the upperhand, I accidentally hit the dial that contained the trinket like crystal. All of a sudden the engine room started making strange funny noises, and they got louder and louder. As we started to clamber out and up the ladder to get away from the engine room and into the safety(!) of the water, Justin Time passed us on his way towards the engine room. He pushed something into my hand - it was a map. "Maybe it'll help you he said. Now go! I'll hold it steady for as long as I can!" As I was climbing up the ladder, there was a small explosion and I lost my footing on the ladder but Captain Credible caught me. Kidd & Eye Patch were close behind but on occasions like this it was every man for themselves. With only moments we thought to spare, Justin opened some sort of hatch above us and we both dived head first into the water. We heard some sort of eerie grinding noise behind us and as we swam towards Credible's ship, the sounds of the wind and electrical discharge behind us Grew louder and louder. We climbed on board the Antonio, which was anchored close by, and as we turned round, we saw the strange looking ship disappear. As we watched the ship go, an image behind it started to appear and we eventually realised that it was a Pirate ship - Captain Kidd's Pirate ship in fact! However, it was too late to do anything for Captain Kidd and Eye Patch had followed us on board our own ship and jumped us by surprise. Back into the river we went and that's how we ended up in Millport.
And after all that, all I really wanted to know was…what in heaven's name was a SUBMARINE???
