MRS RED IS DEAD! - 16/03/00
For this, I was the Stage
Manager but I also took on other roles/duties. My work with regards to M.R.I.D.
was from the pre-production stage to post-production stage and involved, in
rehearsals, creating a prompt book, making notes of furniture, scenery and props
required and making a ground plan of the set. Outwith rehearsals my tasks
were, sourcing the required furniture, scenery and props, recording music,
researching the era of the play and liasing with the director/drama tutor. On
the actual night of the performance, I organised the furniture, props and
scenery of the set, I then managed the house lights, the sound fx and incidental
and dramatic music elements of the show.
MACBETH - 10/3/00
How can a play be cursed?
UP BY THE MOUNTAIN - 22/02/99 (Being Updated)
This was a 20-minute improvised production devised
by adults with severe learning difficulties/disabilities from a short eight-line
poem. I was an Assistant Director to this production and my objectives
were to encourage communication and social interaction skills, develop cognitive
and motor skills, develop social and emotional behaviour, encourage creativity
and imagination, build confidence and self esteem of all students. After
having only been around with this group for about eight hours in total (approx 1
hour a week), I was surprised at how quickly I managed to achieve some of the
above aims. The final performance was really good and showed a good
development in the students abilities and understanding of the given
situations.
BREAKERS -
28/08/89-2/9/89
As part of a Youth Drama Project that
operated in North Ayrshire I became a member of K.I.D.S., (for four months)
which led to a one-week performance run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the
Bedlam Theatre with a play called 'Breakers'. We operated from the theatre at
the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine, where I travelled to every Sunday and I was a
very lively member of the group, always managing to participate in a creative and
imaginative way. I never had any prior experience of rehearsals or performance,
nor any knowledge of theatre in general before joining the group. I also
wasn't a very confident person to start with but I was quickly accepted and
encouraged by others in the group and became a very enthusiastic
member.
In the production which was set during the
mid-eighties, I played two parts, a Protestant in the first
half and a Catholic in the latter. The show featured a lot of
choreographed dances and showed a love/hate relationship between a
group of Catholics and Protestants. We were all heavily involved in
promoting the show during the day, and throughout my stay there I'll never
forget the moments we shared before, during and after the shows.
We all felt a great sense of achievement after performing at the
Edinburgh Fringe and although we just managed to break-even, I came away from
this experience with a craving to act in more theatrical productions, but sadly
the group folded as people pursued different paths towards their individual
careers. At this time I had looked upon acting as an interest/hobby than a
career and I too chose an alternate career path.
