West Side Story - Information

Under Construction

King's Theatre, 29 October - 2 November 2002

The genius of theatrical legends, Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Jerome Robbins makes West Side Story, the transformation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, one of the best-loved musicals ever.

The Jets are a gang of American boys determined to prevent invasion of their territory by the Puerto Rican gang, The Sharks. They arrange a 'rumble' and in the midst of their hatred Tony, gang leader of the Jets, meets and falls in love with Maria, sister of the leader of the Sharks. As with Romeo and Juliet, they must keep their love a secret from their families. But inevitably they are discovered and tragedy ensues.

Born in a Glasgow coffee house in 1926, Pantheon was established by 5 young men to embrace the arts of theatre, singing and drama. Now, over 75 years later, Pantheon is still highly successful, having performed nearly 200 musicals, plays and pantomimes, Pantheon has seen many of its performers go on to professional careers, including Molly Weir, Rikki Fulton and Stewart McLean.
