Lissen made these battery-powered sets in kit form from 1932. As you can see this model has been expertly constructed on its metal chassis. The majority of home constructed receivers were made on a wooden baseboard as it was easier to mount the components.
This example also
has a painted aluminium front panel instead of the more common
bakelite. One would suppose that it originally had a wooden case
but ravages of woodworm may have seen this off.
There were two other models available around this date, the "Skyscraper 3", which had an enclosed loudspeaker and the "Skyscraper 4", which was introduced a year later and had an extra valve.
